Is it wise to become a Medical istant, while attending a university?

It would take 8 months of night courses at a technical school, and afterwards I would have employment. Being a Medical itant isnt what I wish to pursue as my final career, but I think it would help on experience with studying Pre-Med at my University and working towards Cardiac Surgery. Is there such a thing as being a part time Medical itant. I was asking this because the money is good, but is it a good plan?
